Clad metal for Indian cookware manufacturers

India is the largest cookware manufacturing base asking Huahao for three-ply material, and the buying pattern is consistent: a sample disc first, a forming trial in the factory's own tooling, then a bulk order against a written structure.

What Indian buyers usually specify

Three-ply 304 + 1050 + 430 is the standard structure, in discs for woks, kadai and pressure cooker bodies, and in sheet where the factory blanks in house. The 316L face is specified by buyers supplying premium ranges or export customers who ask for it.

Price sensitivity is real, and it shows up in the questions: total thickness, blank weight and yield per disc matter as much as the grade. A supplier who can state the yield per disc and the scrap assumption answers the question the buyer is actually asking.

Documentation and compliance

Material certificates are expected as standard. ROHS and food-contact reports are increasingly requested by buyers who supply organised retail or export programmes, and the reports held for 304, 430, 439 and 3003 cover that ground.

Import duty, HS classification and the applicable Indian standard can decide the choice between a disc and a sheet. The classification should be confirmed with the importer's customs broker, not assumed from the product description.

Sample handling and shipping

The sample stage is where most Indian projects succeed or fail. A disc that draws cleanly in the buyer's press settles the argument faster than any data sheet. Send the drawing with the sample request so the sample is cut to the diameter the trial needs.

Shipments leave from Xiamen. The trade term and the destination port are agreed with the quotation, and the packing is chosen for the handling chain the consignment will see.

Documents to line up before the first shipment

Indian buyers normally need the following in hand before the container leaves: an IEC (import export code), a customs broker engaged with your AD code, GST registration if you want to claim input credit, a commercial invoice and packing list that match the bill of lading exactly, and the certificate of origin for the consignment. On the technical side, the mill certificate for the coils and the inspection record for the finished discs are what your QA will ask for first.

Two practical points save weeks. First, the invoice description must match the HS line your broker declares, so agree the wording before the goods are packed, not after. Second, the documents should travel as a scanned set before originals are couriered, because a mismatch found after the vessel sails is expensive to fix.

Auditing a supplier you cannot visit yet

Most first orders to a new supplier are placed remotely, and three checks carry most of the weight. Ask for the ISO 9001:2015 certificate with its number and expiry, not a logo. Ask for a sample disc with the batch documents attached, and compare the batch reference on the label with the one on the inspection record. Ask for a short video call with the line running your structure in the background: a trader can forward a certificate, but cannot produce a running line on request.

Packing photographs before despatch are the fourth check worth asking for. They cost the supplier ten minutes and they catch the pallet that was strapped with the cooking face against a steel band.

Landed cost: what actually moves the number

Landed cost is not the quoted price plus freight. Four items usually decide the outcome: ocean freight and its surcharges, the customs duty that applies to the HS line your broker uses, IGST, and port handling plus inland movement to your plant. The first and last are quoteable; the middle two depend on classification and on the rate in force at the time of entry.

This site does not state Indian duty rates or HS codes for clad circles. Classification of tri-ply circles has been treated differently across entries, and a rate quoted today can be wrong at the time of clearance. Ask your customs broker to confirm the line and the rate against the actual goods, then build the landed cost on that answer rather than on a supplier's assurance.

Questions

Common questions

Can you supply a small trial lot to India?

Trial quantities are agreed per order, depending on the structure and the size. Send the quantity you need and the structure, and the minimum is stated with the quotation.

Do you quote in USD?

Quotations are issued in USD unless the buyer asks for another currency. The trade term is stated with the price.

Which port do you use for India?

Shipments leave from Xiamen and other Fujian ports. The destination port is agreed with the quotation.

Can you help with HS classification?

We state what the product is and how it is packed. The classification itself should be confirmed with your customs broker.

Is a patterned surface available for Indian ranges?

Yes, embossed and etched discs are produced. Pattern and rim width are agreed from a sample.

What HS code applies to clad circles?

That is a question for your customs broker, not for the material supplier. Classification of tri-ply circles has been treated differently across entries, so this site does not state a code, a duty rate or an exemption. Confirm the line against the actual goods before you cost the order.

Which Indian ports do you ship to?

Buyers normally nominate Nhava Sheva, Mundra or Chennai. The port is stated in the quotation together with the Incoterm, because it changes the freight component rather than the material price.

Can you support BIS or other Indian product certification?

We supply the material and the documents for it: mill certificate, inspection record, and the compliance reports that exist for the grades used. Certification of a finished pan is the pan maker's process, and the requirements should be confirmed with your certification body before the first order.

What payment terms do you offer to new Indian buyers?

Terms are quoted with the order rather than published, because they depend on the structure, the volume and whether a sample has been approved. The first order is normally handled on terms agreed in writing before production starts.

Send a material structure, get a technical answer

Layer grades, thickness, disc diameter and quantity are enough to start. If you only have a drawing or a reference sample, send that instead and we review feasibility from it.
